I really haven’t felt like I was a hostage of oil, or the electric company either.
Governement OTOH…
October 22, 2023 at 11:55 am #395Back in the day I read “The End Of Oil,” a book by one of the peak oil alarmists who had no idea what he was talking about, but was a really great writer. One of the things he stressed was the high likelihood of countries lying about their proven and unproven reserves, especially Saudi Arabra. He’s probably not wrong, but then again, fracking and better extraction techniques really changed the denominator. My thinking is that there’s a group of bankers, investors and accountants in the Federal governement who have a handshake agreement that the minerals under the US are tacitly collateral for keeping the dollar the reserve currency. They hide behind the greens’ fear of digging holes. Not only better to use up everyone else’s raw material before we tap into ours, we can borrow against it (and pretend its there), as long as everyone gets a piece of the action.

Some guy on a crotch rocket running up I25 at high speed. Interesting bike handling and lots of passing between cars. I was just impressed that no state troopers were around… I guess they spend all their time on I70 these days.
August 16, 2023 at 8:53 am #322Crop dusting drones are a much more precise tool for spraying crops. They’ve been used in Japan for years for exactly the reasons you complain about from traditional methods. Think fine tipped paintbrush vs roller or spray gun.

Combining multi-spectral cameras, secret sauce software and tightly controlled sprayers allows farmers to use much less pesticide and fertilizer. A survey flight is done, problem areas are identified and then the right mix is applied to the area. And it is far safer than using manned aircraft.
February 25, 2023 at 12:24 pm #136FYI I tried to sign up for CrowdHealth (advertiser on Tom Woods’ podcast). I wasn’t eligible because I smoked back in the 1990s. Doesn’t matter that I haven’t lit up in 25 years, that’s just how they roll. Have no idea why, but the guy said that’s what their underwriter requires.
Probably should have lied… anyway.
