Perhaps, for some, a walking stick might be a thing to have?
This example of, ‘a Man’s, man’ describes his use for one:@helpinghorsesheal I’ll be dogged gone, still didn’t work for nuthin.
I’m not going to hit the ‘REPLY’ link for this one here.
One more try at posting a photo from an online search:
https://tse2.mm.bing.net/th?id=OIP.RrNeqtmb3MPxcviYGno1yQHaE8
Well, that image test didn’t work, at all.
I didn’t hit the ‘REPLY’ on your comment box for the above comment.
I’ll do it with this one.
Here’s the image I wanted to post, I wonder if it will show?
I didn’t set mine to get notifications.
…There’s a star looking icon thingie in the lower right-hand corner of each comment box. Drag your cursor (mouse?) across the area just to the left of that star icon thingie and a link should magically appear with the word, ‘REPLY’.
Ya have to be logged in to see it.
You click that ‘REPLY’ link which appears and then write a comment & hit the ‘Submit’ button, which in turn notifies that person.
I had other plans today but a snowstorm wiped that out, I’ll see if I can post an online image I saw on the LRC Blog, here:

The ‘Long Version’ of the above video is worth looking up, imho.
I just watched the video below, and I thought he did a great job covering the subject, if you’re ever so fortunate to be able to do this, he has got some tips which you might not have thought of and he covers it from both perspectives: from a guy who knows about guns teaching a woman who does not, as well as from a woman who knows about guns teaching a guy who does not:
Just testing where this comment will nest if I hit the ‘REPLY’ link on the lower right hand corner of michael67’s comment. Will it appear in the middle of the thread underneath his comment, or way down at the bottom of the thread?
And, thanks for the heads up about Waxoyl & Fluid Film.
Test
RE: “(I’m not receiving notifications from this forum, though I’ve elected to do so-”
I think, it’s because the default setting of the comment box at the bottom of the thread is set to ‘REPLY TO’ the particular subject and not the last person who commented.
I noticed there’s a teeny tiny ‘REPLY’ link which appears when a person hoovers their cursor over the lower right corner of your comment box. I never noticed it before, really. Perhaps it should not be an, ‘appear on hoover’ link & should be big bold and brightly colored? Idk.
I’ll click the reply link & see if you get a notification.
This one seems to be just getting off the ground. It’s in the, being created stage.
Joe Jarvis starts talking about his Academy at the 9:50 mark.
The idea seems to be hands on learning & education with room & board in exchange for labor.
A college alternative.
Looks to me like it might work into a great opportunity for a young person.
RE: “If you drive in the salt, if you can hose off the crud..out of the wheel wells, off the body, and underneath it’ll go a long way to preventing rust…”
Since about 1990 when (I think) they switched to using a spray salt brine concoction on the roads it appears to me the above is not a true statement. Or, at least it isn’t any longer.
I met an electrician years ago, said he bought a brand new F-150 & washed it religiously – just as you described – he was kinda flummoxed & pissed that his truck rusted out the same as everyone else’s.
It seems to me the best defense in a good offense, keep a vehicle in a garage & let it get dry and stay that way for as long as possible. S.O.L. if ya ain’t got a garage, or the better vehicle is in it.
Undercoating certainly helps quite a bit. I know someone who has a 2007 with dealership undercoating, the underneath is 10 times better looking than similar year models I have seen without the undercoating.
It was garage kept, so I wonder how big a factor that was.If I ever get a nicer ride, I’ll definitely check out Waxoyl & Fluid Film.
Mostly, getting a rust-free vehicle around these parts means a trip to the Stealership.
Your old tactic of driving beaters & selling them off worked pretty good for me too, until Cash-For-Clunkers hit.
Between that & the crazy jump in used vehicle prices not long ago, it’s no longer very workable. Not impossible, just not common or cheap. Imho.A new alternator, or tires etc, is still less expensive than a whole new ride. Usually?
I remember trying to buy a used 4×4 in 2005 or so, I couldn’t even touch a 4×4 under 100,000 miles for less than $10,000. For the most part, or far & few between, seems like things stayed that way. Here, anyway.

RE: “Our observation should rather be of how such a diabolical system and tyranny, which claims to ‘liberate and help’ people, has instead created these circumstances where so many have become dependent upon oppression, tyranny and robbery.”
Possibly. It’s always good to know what caused the problem in the first place.
Or, perhaps, the focus should be how to get out of this mess?Quite a bit like walking through muck, your boot catches, and you feel your foot sliding out of your boot as you try to take the next step?
Anyway,… Fak! I got too many tabs open, & too much to do,… and, a pretty distraction…
Thankks for the input, I’ll re-read it in the A.M..
Well, I didn’t review my first post well enough as Buffalo Outdoors does not use his signature tag line at the end of the video of the Maverick 88.
He does in this one:
I posted this video for anyone who has shoulder issues or perhaps for a woman who also wants a shotgun for self-defense but not the heavy recoil of a 12 gauge shotgun. The .410 shotgun has very little recoil compared to a 12 gauge shotgun and imho is worth considering.
And, of course, your eyes & ears are quite useful in self-defense situations, this guy covers some ground I never thought about before.
Paul Harrell explains some ways to identify if someone is intentionally or unintentionally shooting at you or in your direction:
He has quite a few videos which seem worthwhile.
‘Developing Trust in Your Firearm’ might be a good jumping-in point?
